Grounded in Quality Matters (QM) HE Rubric, 7th ed., Standards 2, 3, and 8, the Instructional Foundations Bootcamp (IFB) workshop bridges the gap between traditional course design and the evolving world of AI. The IFB is a one-week workshop that reviews foundational elements of instruction.
Topics of the workshop include:
QM GS 2: Learning Objectives & AI Alignment
Draft measurable, learner-centered objectives. Learn to use AI to refine alignment across course and module levels.
Monday-Tuesday (2 days)
QM GS3: Assessment & Academic Integrity
Design "Human-in-the-Loop" evaluations that emphasize authentic human thought and transparent grading policies.
Wednesday-Friday (3 days)
QM GS 8: Accessibility & Universal Design
Master WCAG compliance for text, images, and multimedia. Verify vendor accessibility for all digital tools.
Saturday-Sunday (2 days)
Key Outcomes
Measurable Goals: Align module outcomes with course-level objectives.
AI Integration: Identify tools to support—rather than replace—learning.
Clear Feedback: Build sequenced assessments and descriptive rubrics.
Full Access: Ensure all multimedia and navigation are user-friendly and inclusive.
Why "Human-in-the-Loop"? We focus on design strategies that require specific human input,
ensuring AI remains a resource while students remain the creators.
Format: Hosted in Canvas, the workshop will be delivered asynchronously, with the facilitator offering synchronous office hours for consultations/ questions each day.
Materials: Readings and other materials will be posted/provided for use. You will refer to an existing Course Syllabus to complete the learning activities--bring a Syllabus of your choice.
